L’Initiative from the Expertise France organization, is a French facility that speeds up the fight against major pandemics and helps countries improve people’s access to quality health services.
Lalicorn handled the design and post-production of two podcasts: a five-episode on the impact of climate change on malaria in Africa and a five-episode about community health in Africa.
PODCAST 1
In December 2024 in Musanze, Rwanda, L’Initiative organised a training workshop on how climate change affects malaria. Participants from 19 French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries gathered to share experiences and, alongside researchers and other specialists, discuss new control strategies.
PODCAST 2
Following the 2025 Scientific Day organized by L’Initiative and focused on “Community health: between innovation and constraints,” this podcast series invites listeners to immerse themselves alongside practitioners, researchers, and community actors.
Works
SIMPLIFYING & ADVISING
The podcasts had to be accessible to a broad audience.
For the 1st podcast, well before the recording, our task was to find a physician who was also a journalist and well-versed in malaria issues. Her role was to work with the guests on the answers they would give, to help them simplify their messages. Our second task was to give the project manager technical guidance so she could record high-quality audio, without a sound engineer on site, in Rwanda.
EDITING
The first podcast recordings were mostly well recorded. For the 2nd podcast, it was a bit scary because these recordings were of low quality as they were not initially made to be included in a podcast.
Then came the long editing phase: trimming the lengthy interviews, weaving in recordings from the participating researchers and physicians, plus the host’s intros and extra takes. For both projects, the speakers were non professional for the most part, there was a lot of cleaning and stitching involved.
To give the podcasts a distinct identity, we created signature stingers and added energetic musics. Finally, we applied the finishing touch with the mix, and voilà!
